BlueTally seamlessly integrates with Jira ITSM by showing you a list of all assets currently checked out to the reporter of a ticket directly in Jira.
Setup
To set up the Jira integration, you'll need to install our application from the Atlassian Marketplace on your Jira instance. Please find the link to the application here.
Configuration
Once you've installed the application, please click on Manage your Apps in Jira, find the BlueTally for Jira application, and click on Configure:
Here you'll see two options: Update Visibility and Update API Key:
Start by selecting which Jira projects you'd like the integration to appear in, and click on the Submit button below the form.
To get your API Key, please sign into your BlueTally account, click on the Profile icon in the top right corner, and click on the Settings link. Then, click on the API Keys link on the left side of the screen, and click on the Create API Key button. That will generate an API key that you can copy and paste into the API Key field in Jira.
If you're on our Corporate or Enterprise plan, you have multi-tenancy enabled on your account by default, and you'll also need to enter the Tenant ID that the Jira integration should be connected to. You can find the Tenant ID by signing into BlueTally, clicking on the Profile icon in the top right corner, and then clicking on Switch Tenants. There you'll see a list of all your tenants and their respective IDs.
Once you've pasted the API key (and the Tenant ID, if applicable) into Jira, please click on the Submit button below the form. The configuration is then completed, and the integration is ready for use.
Using the Integration
Once you've completed the configuration, you'll see the BlueTally integration appear in the sidebar of all tickets in Jira for the project(s) you specified in the configuration:
Clicking on it will show you a list of all the assets currently checked out to the reporter of that ticket. You'll also see a button to take you directly to the View Employee page in BlueTally for the reporter of the ticket, as well as a direct link to the Show Asset page for the assets checked out to them:
You'll see a list of all assets currently checked out to this employee in BlueTally with the following details:
Asset ID
Asset Name
Product
Manufacturer
Category
Serial Number
Checkout Date
Warranty Expiration Date
End of Life Date
Next Audit Date
Last Audit Date
Last Maintenance Date
The integration uses the Reporter Email field to look up corresponding employees in BlueTally, so you need to ensure all your employees are added to BlueTally for the integration to work as intended.
Frequently Asked Questions
Am I able to customize which fields appear for the asset in Jira?
Unfortunately, not as of now, although this functionality is planned for the next version of the integration.
Can I show custom fields from BlueTally in Jira?
This isn't possible now, but it's on the roadmap for the integration.
Can I make changes to my BlueTally account from the Jira integration?
Unfortunately, no, it is currently a one-way integration from BlueTally to Jira, and you won't be able to make any changes to your BlueTally account from Jira. However, this is also on the roadmap for the next version of the integration.
What if I have multi-tenancy enabled, but only have one tenant - will I still need to enter the Tenant ID?
Yes, even if you currently only have one tenant active, you'll still need to enter the Tenant ID for the Jira integration to know which tenant it should connect to.
Is it possible to sync multiple BlueTally Tenant IDs to the same Jira account?
Unfortunately, this can't be done. One Jira instance can only be connected to one BlueTally tenant at a time. However, if you have separate Jira instances, you can connect each instance to each of your BlueTally tenants if you have multi-tenancy enabled on your BlueTally account.
