One of the most prominent notifications on the Dashboard of your BlueTally account is the Due for Return event. If you have a Due for Return date set for any Asset, Accessory, or License, then BlueTally will notify you when it's time for that item to be returned!
The notification is viewable when you click on the bell icon in the upper right-hand corner of your screen, and it will even remind you who is currently in possession of the item that is due back.
How to set an Expected Return Date
When you are checking out an Asset, Accessory, or License, you'll be able to select a date while you are on the item's corresponding Checkout page. You'll enter this date under the Expected Return Date field.
Here's what you'll see on the Checkout Asset page:
Here's what you'll see on the Checkout Accessory page:
And here's what you'll see on the Checkout License page:
You can type in this date manually, or you can click on the calendar icon on the right-hand side of the field to pull up a small calendar view to select the date.
Once you've selected the date and entered all the other relevant data for your checkout, you can scroll to the bottom of the page and click the blue Save button to complete the checkout process.
You'll know you did this successfully if you are directed back to the item's main primary page and you see a message stating your item was "checked out successfully". In the case of Assets, you'll also be able to see the Due Back date in the status box in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
For Accessories, you will find the Due Back or Expected Return Date by visiting the Active Checkout tab on the Show Accessory page:
For Licenses, you will find the Due Back or Expected Return Date by visiting the Seats tab on the Show License page:
How can I edit an Expected Return Date after a Checkout?
We understand that you might deploy an Asset to an Employee for an indefinite amount of time if you anticipate them staying with your organization for a long tenure. But what happens if they give their notice? You might want to change the Expected Return Date if they tell you they plan to leave the company in two weeks.
Or maybe you accidentally entered the wrong date during the checkout process for an Accessory or License. It'd be great to be able to go back and edit it to the correct date to prevent any possible confusion.
Generally speaking, you'll want to look for the pencil icon next to where you would typically find the item's Expected Return Date, but we've provided more details for each type of item in the next sections of this guide.
Changing an Asset's Expected Return Date
Look for the Due Back date in the status box in the upper right-hand corner of the Show Asset page. Here, you'll see a blue pencil icon to the right of the date.
Click on the pencil, and a pop-up box will appear allowing you to change the date.
You can then correct the date to whatever it should be. Additionally, if the Employee or Location should have the Asset for an indefinite amount of time, you can delete the values in the date so that it appears as "mm/dd/yyyy".
Click the blue Save button to save your changes, and then the page will refresh to update the changes you have made.
Changing an Accessory's Expected Return Date
Navigate to the Active Checkouts tab on the appropriate Show Accessory page. You should see small blue pencil icons next to each date under the Expected Return Date column. If an Accessory was checked out indefinitely, you will see a "-" under the Expected Return Date, but the pencil icon will still appear next to it.

Changing a License's Expected Return Date

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a way I can edit multiple Expected Return Dates in bulk?
This isn't currently possible for Accessories and Licenses, but you can edit Assets' Expected Return Dates in bulk by using the Bulk Edit Assets and Batch Update Assets features, both of which are found in the dropdown menu under the Assets tab in the navigation bar.
Why can't I include an Expected Return Date for Consumables?
Consumables cannot be checked back in, unlike Assets, Accessories, or Licenses, so an Expected Return Date would have no function. The only items we recommend including under the Consumables section are ones that you do not expect to get back from an Employee, whether these are items that will be consumed upon use, like ink cartridges or reams of paper, or company merchandise and other items that are given away, like T-shirts, tote bags, name tags, etc.
